Soft Danwei

This is the Soft Danwei Chair (軟單位椅子), based on the classic Chinese Government-issue office chair. We based our version on an original piece found by the riverbank under Andingmen Bridge near Beijing’s Second Ring Road. What makes this one special is its rounded front legs, which gives the chair a cuter, cuddlier look than most government-issue furniture. (Plus… they are quite comfortable… we sit in these all day long in the office). Upholstered in our custom-woven corduroy or nappy wool per below. The frame is built in our workshop using Chinese Elm. The stain is applied slowly by hand (never sprayed) and then waxed and rubbed repeatedly.
